Job Description

The Buyer performs purchasing activities for this $100M+ business with multiple locations in the US.  Works with minimal supervision to meet the organization's purchasing objectives and accomplish duties assigned by the Purchasing Manager.  

  • Conducts all business in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organization and in accordance with the best business purchasing standards as currently practiced or as directed by the Purchasing Manager.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of the business, material inputs, and end-products of the organization

  • Assists department personnel in determining the most suitable product or service to meet their needs.

  • Finds the best sources negotiates the most favorable agreement possible, and prepares all required supporting documentation. 

  • May track and expedite orders to see that the purchased items are delivered when required. 


  • Validates and processes internal purchasing requisitions

  • Obtain and analyze bids in accordance with established policies and procedures

  • Prepare purchase orders or other agreements as necessary and check them for accuracy and completeness before issuing

  • Review acknowledgements for agreement with purchase orders and resolve any discrepancies with the supplier to the best possible advantage for the organization

  • Follow-up or expedite orders as necessary to meet schedules

  • Keep the Purchasing Manager informed of all activities or problems and submit reports as requested by management

  • Develop an efficient and accurate system for monitoring all open purchase orders

  • Collaborate with various other teams (Supply Chain, Quality, Operations, Finance) as necessary

Job Requirements


  • 3-5 years of experience in the procurement of direct and indirect materials and the development and review of contracts
  • BS degree in supply chain management, procurement or related field
  • APICS, CPIM certification preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and the leadership ability to drive teams and change
  • Experience with ERP systems- suggested purchase orders
  • Skilled at negotiating and networking
  • Collaborative skills in resolving issues
  • Knowledge of the metals market is a plus
  • Strong analytical and organization skills to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
